SPARE PARTS SCHEME WORING . WELL

REFIsYING to several questions asked in Parliament last week, Mr. Harold Macmillan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Supply, said he was satisfied that the actiou taken by the Ministry was re• suiting in' a supply of spare parts sufficient to meet the requirements of essential civil transport. Greatly increased allocations of raw materials and productive capacity had been made

for this purpose. • A scheme had been introduced in conjunction with the Ministry of War Transport for ensuring that tyres, also, ▪ were available for essential vehicles.

It was working smoothly. The Ministry of Swaply had also directed vehicle manufacturers to arrange for reclaiming and reconditioning used spare parts wherever pratticable.

AUSTIN COMPANY LUNCHES ITSLONDON AREA DEALERS ON October I the Austin Motor Co., Ltd„ gave a luncheon at Grosvenor House to its leading dealers in London and the Home Counties, when they were afforded an opportunity of meeting the new chairman, Mr. E. L. Payton.

P. 14prd -for his great work on behalf of the company, Mr. Lord said that Austin vehicles were standing up very well—and better than many—to active service and other' conditions, and plenty of spare parts were available for them. He thought that,, following the war, the company 'would get off. the mark as quickly as anyone else.

Reference was made by another speaker to the disposal of surplus vehicles, and he suggested that this should be done through manufacturers, and thence to dealers, to ,avoid the develtienent of another Slough. Agreement on this matter should be reached with the Ministry of War Transport at an early date.
