Descriptions of Machines which are Suitable for Commercial-vehicle Factories and Repair Shops.

The International Engineering and Machinery Exhibition, which is now being held at Olympia, has -much on show which is of special interest to the whole of the readers of this journal. In particular, there is displayed a representative collection of modern machine tools of all types, which cannot fail to claim the attention of those who have to consider the various problems involved in connection with the establishment and running of commercial-vehicle running depots and repair shops, as well as of those whose. business is associated with the many modern factories which are at present producing chassis of all types for industrial purposes. In addition to the exhibits of machine tools, Olympia at the present time houses a collection of accessories and supplies, many of which have special interest for us.

The exhibition was formally opened on Friday of last week, and the occasion was marked by an inaugural luncheon in the Pillar Hall of that building, the chairman being H. J. MacKinder, Esq., M.P. Amongst other distinguished guests was the Right Hon. the Earl of Selborne, K.G. The chief toast, that of the Machine Tool and Engineering Association, Ltd., which body has been responsible for the initiation and organization of the present display, was proposed by J. M. Robertson, Esq. (Board of Trade), and responded to by Alfred Herbert, Esq.

The most convenient method in which we may consider the specialities which are on view is to group them under the headings of machine tools and of special components, small portable plant and supplies. Under the present heading, we shall deal with the principal examples which come within the first category. Elsewhere in this issue we deal with the other interesting display, and the individual exhibits in that section are reviewed under the heading of "The Purchases Department," which is a reconstituted feature of this paper, and which it is our intention regularly to include in future issues.

It will be impossible, with the space at our disposal, considering the number of special articles which we have to include, completely to review or to deal adequately with the whole exhibition, in a single number. Therefore, both the machine-tool section and that pertaining particularly to supplies and specialities will be continued in the issue which will be published on the 17th inst. We now proceed to describe hereunder certain machine-tool exhibits, for which the special attention of our readers is claimed.
