CHESHIRE HAULAGE firm James Irlam has been offered advice after a driver was found dead next to his vehicle following a drinking session the previous night.

West Yorkshire coroner David Hi ncli I ill plans to write to the firm highlighting the potential dangers of drivers sleeping in their cabs after heavy drinking sessions when they have a full day's driving ahead of them.

An inquest held on 2 November heard that Michael Earrimond, a driver wi th Wakefield-based James Want died on or about 11 June from a blow to the head after celebrating with colleagues over his forthcoming retirement.

Earrimond, who was due to retire that weekend, had consumed a substantial amount of alcohol before retiring to his cab to sleep off the effects of his celebratory drinks. He was parked up at the depot on Wakefield's Normanton Industrial Estate.

He is believed to have slipped and fallen from his cab the next morning, striking his head on a concrete surface. A verdict of accidental death has been recorded.

James irlam employs 400 staff; it is based in Chelford, Cheshire.
