MANY HAULAGE firms depend upon and co-exist with the agricultural community. It saddens me that the 'supermarket mentality' in this country has driven farm prices so low that farmers cannot make money, and it bothers me even more that because farmers can't make money, hauliers cannot charge a profitable rate for moving agricultural goods.
wish farmers luck with their three-day protest, but I would argue that we need to educate shoppers about the true cost of their cheap goods That cost is a system that squeezes farmers and hauliers, and relies on goods being flown across the world out of season rather than paying our producers and food carriers a decent price.
Surely this consumer age must collapse at some point.
It makes no sense to me that you can screw your suppliers and transport into the ground until they disappear without crippling your economy as a result.
