Our ur trio of dry freighters comprised two curtainsiders from M&G and Lawrence David and Wilson's twin-decked box van: two different body types, but both developed to convey large amounts of freight

With a full side opening to one or both sides and a clear rear entry, the curtainsiders are well suited to fork lift loading. Lawrence David's Traccess 90/38 pillarless curtainsider featured its proven flexible fronted, all bolted structure which have attracted close attention from other manufacturers. .

The company has a detailed computer programme to ensure that customers get the right vehicle for their needs. All parts are extensively prepared before being given the final coat of paint LD also make its own load-bearing curtains with twin tensioners, straps and buckles. It's an innovative design that scores well in loading access, ease of maintenance and marketability. The judges were less impressed by the spray suppression layout (fitted only on the rear axle) and manual drain valves on the air reservoirs. They would also have liked to see some step and hand grips at the rear to improve access.

M&G's Successor Volumaster is another curtainsider with star quality. It holds up to 34 Europallets, thanks to angular corners on the bolted front end.
