Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The first red route scheme to go ahead following a successful pilot between Highgate and Limehouse in east London will be implemented next February. Red routes restrict drivers to stopping at specific spaces. The new route is a 5.6kin (3.5-mile) stretch of the South Circular in west London.

Last week the Traffic Director for London, Derek Turner, announced the extension which is part of a 1120m plan to convert 507km (315 miles) of the capital's roads to red routes by 2000.

The red route restrictions will be imposed on the South Circular (A205) between the Chiswick Roundabout and the junction with Roehampton Lane (A306).

It will be followed by red routes at the A3 between the London/Surrey boundary and Roehampton Lane (A306); the A316 from the London/Surrey boundary to the A205; and then the A1400.
