COMMISSIONERS' FORTHCOMING PUBLIC SITTINGS

Details Extracted from the Gazettes Published by Area Traffic Commissioners During the Week IMHE following are the times and 1 places announced by Area Traffic Commissioners for their forthcoming public sittings. In each case the number of the latest Gazette of Notices and Proceedings to be receivedis mentioned in brackets.

No further lists of applications to be heard are given in Gazette 26 of the Southern Scotland Area. A number of decisions is listed in this gazette.

Applications by Ribble :Motor Services, Ltd.; to the Northern Commissioners, which will be heard at Carlisle on November 24th, for express services connecting Liverpool with Edinburgh and Paisley, are being contested by the L.M.S. Railway Co., which, of course, is an allied company. The Darlington sitting, commencing on November 17th, will be largely occupied by stagecarriage applications of the "United."

At the Yorkshire sitting at Sheffield commencing on November 17th there will be a large amount of municipal and railway opposition to excursions. Gazette 29 lists many licence decisions, including a ' mimber of refusals. Amongst the latter Mr. S. H. Thompson, of Halifax, figures prominently, having

been denied licences for 16 express services in different directions from Halifax.

Applications received occupy 116 pages in the latest West Midland gazette. Excursion applications will be heard at Birmingham, on November 11th, and almost all are strongly contested. Birmingham Corporation is opposing at that sitting many stage-carriage applications by private operators which are likely to affect its interests.

No important applications are registered for hearing in the latest East Midland gazette. Amongst the refusals announced is that of the application of Baldock Transport, Ltd., in respect of the London-Barmtiuth route.

' At Cambridge on November 18th, the L.G.O.C., Green Line„ National,

L.M.S., and Metropolitan Railway concerns are opposing the application of Viking Motor Coaches to continue its existing stage-carriage service between Oxford and London. At The same sitting the railways are opposing numerous excursion applications.

The Portsmouth sitting of "the Southern Commissioners, commencing to-morrow, is peculiarly free from contentious cases. Gazette 33 announces the unfavourable decisions of the Minister of Transport concerning the appeals of the Skylark Motor Coach Co.' Ltd., and the Amershani and District concern. In each ease the appellant is required to pay the Minister's 'Costs • in connection with the inquiry. The Southern Railway continues to oppose the London-coastal coach services at the sitting of the SouthEaste.n commissioners, which opened

• in London yesterday, Gazette 34 announces the Minister's dismissal of the appeals lodged by Redear Services, Ltd., and Mr. John McCredie, of Walton-on-Thames; regarding excursionlicence conditions.

At the Metropolitan sitting on November 16th, Viking Motor Coaches and others concerned in London-pro

vincial services will have to meet the opposition of nearly all the associated companies that are affected. The whale week's sitting is practically devoid of any respite from contentious cases. Gazette 34 lists seven appeal decisions, all of which are unfavourable to the nppellant concerned. The Metropolitan Commissioner is now immersed in all the argument and counter argument from which he must determine his policy concerning the Green Line and similar London coach services; his inquiry concerning fares opens on December 7th.
