Interesting Displays on 15 Stands. Low-pressure Giant Pneumatics and Non skid Treads THIS year 15 tyre manufacturers are exhibiting at the Commercial Motor Show, and they will demonstrate the development since the exhibition of 1929 in manufacturing methods and finished products. An imuortant evolution in the tyro world is that of the low-pressure giant pneumatic, whilst increased attention is, it would appear, being paid to minimizing skid action.

This is the first Commercial Motor Show at which the Avon India Rubber Co., Ltd. (stand 384), has shown its Avon-Seiberling giant pneumatics. The sizes on view range from 23 ins. by 5 ins. to 42 ins. by 9 ins. Low-pressure giants from 32 ins. by 6.00/20 ins. to 40 ins. by 10.50/20 ins, are also to be shown, and to this category a 44-in. by 12.0/20-in. tyre has been added.

The exhibit of the Bergougnan Tyre Co. (stand 374) includes the maker's standard tyres, dissymmetrical, giantreinforced and E.D.R. patterns, whilst a grooving machine for dealing with solid-rubber tyres constitutes— another interesting exhibit.

Amongst the exhibits of the British Goodrich Rubber Co., Ltd. (stand 373) is to be found the company's well-known Gilt-Edged tyre, which is of particularly robust construction, having stoutly buttressed treads, whilst the walls and shoulders are well 'protected. A range of standard giants and examples of solid and semi-pneumatic tyre are on view.

J. W. and T. Connolly, Ltd., has a stand (379) that should be of interest to adherents to the solid tyre, for here several examples of this pattern aPe shown, along with patent air-cushion tyres, bumpers, wheels, axles and springs for trailers, and various other accessories for commercial vehicles.

The Davies Tyre Co. displays on stand 375 a range of Classic and special giant pneumatics, which are of interesting construction, in that the cord plies are formed in an unusual manner. The treads are deep cut and the shoulder buttresss are massive.

The Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., shows, on stand 369, a fine range of its popular products. The tyres on view include various types of pneumatic, non-skid solid, cushion tyre and other patterns to meet a variety of needs. On stand 371 Englebert Tyres, Ltd., displays a full range of heavy-duty giantpneumatic and low-pressure tyres for all types of commercial vehicle, and a feature of the exhibit is a new moulded giant inner tube.

An imposing array of tyres is staged by the Firestone Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd. (stand 383), amongst which the company's popular gum-dipped heavyduty high and low-pressure giant pneumatic covers call for special attention. Other exhibits include circular, moulded tubes, wheel and rim equipment, etc.

Another exhibition of giant pneumatics is staged by the Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co. (Great Britain), Ltd., which has, on stand 377, a useful range of pneumatic equipment. Special interest centres around the Goodyear tyre of 13.50-in. section, weighing over 2* cwt., and capable of withstanding a load of 74 cwt.

Henley's Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd. (stand 380), being a prominent manufacturer of solid-rubber tyres, users of this type of equipment will be interested

in the company's exhibits. They include solids capable of bearing excep

tionally heavy loads, as well as aircushion tyres and pneumatic equipment. The company's new Green Stripe pneumatic for various types of vehicle is of particular interest.

India tyres have become well known for their stout build, and visitors will be able, at their leisure, to examine them on stand 378 of the India Tyre and Rubber Co. (Great Britain), Ltd. Long service and safety are features stressed by the maker, and the exhibits include new low and medium-pressure equipment and examples of a new allblack tube.

Chas. Macintosh and Co., Ltd. (stand 376) displays a range of solid-rubber tyres, including a special twin non-skid pattern, press-on tyres for heavy commercial vehicles and Dunlop steel-disc wheels. Macintosh N.A.P. cushion equipment also finds a place.

Undoubtedly the most important exhibits on stand 381 of the Michelin Tyre Co., Ltd., are the company's new 230/22 equipment with a maximum inflation pressure of 50 lb. per sq. in. and the 270/20 low-pressure tyre with a maximum inflation pressure of 57 lb. per sq. in.

Pirelli, Ltd. (stand 370) displays a representative range of tyres for commercial vehicles, comprising giant pneumatics, semi-pneumatics and solids.

Spencer-Moulton Blue Ribaud giant pneumatic covers and tubes, Caswell Super-Service Blue Riband equipment of similar pattern and various rubber auxiliary buffers comprise the exhibit of the Trowbridge Tyre and Rubber Co. (1929) Ltd. (stand 372).
