Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALL operators who require economicalnomical and fast transport are well catered for on this stand, for the vehicles shown range from a small 8 h.p. chassis capable of dealing with loads up to 5 cwt. to a 45-cwt. lorry powered by a high-efficiency o.h.v. engine.

A new model known as the 35-ewt. Prosperity lorry is on view for the first time and, equipped with a six-cylindered engine having a nominal power of =.7 h.p. (but actually developing 65 b.h.p. at 3,600 r.p.m.), gives the vehicle a comprehensive performance fully equal to modern demands.

The relatively short wheelbase of 10 ft. 6 ins, ensures good manceuvrability, whilst the body length of 9 ft. 6 ins, brings the vehicle into a useful class. The principal items of equipment include a four-speed gearbox and fully floating rear axle, internalexpanding four-wheel brakes and 6-in. by 20-in. pneumatic tyres, singles being fitted to the front wheels and twins at the rear. Special attention has been paid to the suspension system, and long, flexible rear springs (actually with 4-ft. 2-in. centres) -are employed ; steer ing is of the Marks type. All road wheels are mounted on taper-roller bearings and the turning circle is stated to be of as small a diameter as 45 ft.

Three examples of the 5-cwt. Junior Model are on view, one taking the form of a chassis whilst the other two are vans. In this range a number of improvements has been incorporated. The engine of 8 h.p. nominal rating now develops something in the order of 20 b.h.p. and gives greater thermal efficiency, which, in turn, means that the vehicle is more economical to operate. Again, the bodywork has been improved and more pleasing lines are incorporated.

A departure from accepted practice is the fact that the Junior vans can be obtained cellulosed in one of a variety of colours at the inclusive price of £120. The loading space of the 10-cwt. van has been increased by about 7 per cent., although the price remains unchanged at £170.

The six-cylindered engine fitted to the 25-cwt. van is of the side-valve type and has a stout four-bearing crankshaft with a vibration damper at the front end ; smooth running is therefore assured. A single-plate dry clutch gives an engagement area of 76 sq. ins., whilst the four-speed gearbox enables the vehicle to be used in all types of country; The 2-ton and 45-cwt. chassis are planned on very similar lines, the main difference between the two being the fact that the smaller capacity vehicle has a wheelbase of 11 ft. 1i in. with a useful body space of 9 ft. 2i ins., whilst the 45-cwt. model has a 12-ft. 9-in, wheelbase and a 10-ft. 10-in, body space.—Singer and Co., Ltd., Coventry.
