DURING the past year there have been several signs of increasing attention being paid to the market for light delivery units. Much headway has been made in this field by the Raleigh Cycle Co., Ltd. Its three-wheeled, light delivery van makes use of a special form of the front and central portions of a robustly constructed motorcycle, anchored to a rolled-steel chassis which carries the live axle and differential assembly. The front end spring is sprung

by means of a compression-spring fork, but the rear wheels are sprung only by the tyres. The 49 cubic ft. body is insulated from the chassis by four quarterelliptic springs.

A single-cylindered 598 c.c. air-cooled engine drives by chain through a clutch and three-speed gearbox, and the fuelconsumption rate works out at well over 50 m.p.g. under delivery-tan conditions. This machine can be used either for delivery work or as a works truck capable of hauling a trailer. At 75 guineas, the delivery van is an interesting proposition.

The delivery vehicles exhibited show several important alterations ; the fuel tank is now placed laterally, whilst the engine is inclined and covered by a bonnet, through which protrudes the gear lever. All three wheels are readily detachable and interchangeable—an important feature often overlooked in such machines. The silencing system is new and should be efficient, conveying the gases well to the rear of the body.—In the new form the Raleigh offers good value for money.—The.
