Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

REPUTATION for quality in the Latil machines, which are made in France, has been established in this country over a long Period during which they have been regularly sold and properly serviced. Simple design and an absence of components requiring intricate attention, stout construction and the use of straightforward four-cylindered engine, are noticeable features of the Latil series of models. This, covers a remarkably wide range. Lorry chassis are available for loads from 35 cwt. to 6 tons. An articulated vehicle with detachable trailing unit is offered for loads up to seven tons, and a powerful tractor represents the limit of the general-purpose models, although the company also has available a tractor for handling burdens of 30 tons.

The lightest goode carrier on exhibition on the present occasion is the now PB3 3k-ton chassis having a fourcylindered engine of 20 h.p. Treasury rating, four-speed gearbox and 34-in. by 7-in, pneumatic tyres (twin rear). This machine has a wheelbase of 14 ft. and

the chassis weighs 2-1 tons. It is a high-speed machine and for this reason vacuum-operated brakes are fitted.

The B5 Express 6-tonner with normal control is a familiar model to this country and will be exhibited with enclosed cab, lorry body and Hydraulic Hoist tipping gear:" The engine has an R.A.C. rating of 27.3 h.p. and is controlled by a governor. There is a four-speed gearbox and the wheels carry 40-in. by 8-in. pneumatics, braking being by the French Westinghouse vacuum system. The wheelbase is 13 ft. 6 ins.

The articulated machine referred to above incorporates the PB3T road tractor with 30-in. by 5-in. tyres and an 8.f t. wheelbase. The trailer has 38-in. by 7-in, rear tyres and is of the quickly detachable kind, a pair of jockey wheels being provided at the front for manhandling in the yard. The widemouthed ramp for the instantaneous coupling ball makes it extremely easy for the driver to couple up, and as an over-run brake acts upon the trailing wheels, disconnection of one trailer and attachment of another are literally a matter of seconds.

A special-purpose machine is the POLL low-loader which has front drive, the rear support for the low frame being by means of a four-wheeled bogie carrying small solid tyres. A winch is mounted behind the driver's seat for loading heavy articles, such as machinery, for which the vehicle is intended, and a strong 5-ft. ramp is supplied when necessary.

Finally, there is on the stand the KTL 10-ton tractor, another quite unusual machine. This drives, steers and brakes on all four wheels and has lockable differentials and hinged steel wheel spuds which, in five minutes, can be :folded down so as to give the wheels a grip on soft ground. An auxiliary gearbox provides in all six speeds forward and two reverse, whilst a power. operated winch can be fitted.

With this equipment the machine is capable of the most arduous forestry or general work. It has even proved itself a useful tractor for the most difficult work of transporting beet from the field direct to the beet-sugar factory. The main advantage is that even in soft ground it can deal with a trailer weighing, laden as much as 8 tons or 10 tons. Another task for which the KTL tractor is suited is that of mole-draining, this, of course, being effected with the winch gear.—Latil Industrial Vehicles, Ltd., 11, Albert Embankment, London, S.E.
