Dort those who have small quantities .12 of goods to be conveyed at a fair speed and do not want to run to the expense of an ordinary van, a threewheeler, such as the James Handyvan, is a convenient and economical means for transport, which will carry loads up to 5 cwt. and provide a capacity, in the case of the larger model exhibited, ef 36 cubic ft.

James is a name well known in the motorcycle world, and the power unit of the Handyvan is the proved 5 h.p. side-valve twin-cylindered engine with detachable heads and automatic lubrication. The forward part of the machine is practically the same as that of a motorcycle, except that it is provided with a scuttle dash, hood and windscreen, which ensure an excellent measure of protection for the driver.

The gearbox is the James patent three-speed type with multi-plate metal clutch and kick starter. The transmission to the back axle, which, incidentally, is of the semi-floating type with a steel outer casing, is by extra-strong Renold chains with a ready means for adjustment. Powerful internal-expanding brakes act on both rear wheels ; these are foot-operated and fully compensated, whilst a ratchet hand lever is brought into use when the vehicle is standing. An internal-expanding brake acts on the front wheel and is operated from the handlebar. The wheels are shod with large-section Goodyear heavy-duty tyres. A welded-steel frame is utilized for the body, the panels of 'which are covered with stove-enamelled steel, whilst the roof is in aluminium. With the van, double doors are provided.

The chassis frame is built up of high quality weldless steel tube, whilst the petrol tank, which hold 2i gallons of petrol and four pints of oil, is made of welded steeL Reverting to the engine, ignition is effected by a high-tension magdyno of Lucas make, and carburation by an Amal instrument.

The finish of these machines is very good, and chromium or cadmium plating is used at many points. The equipment is most complete.
