This follows several highofile disputes over pay tolving drivers working on ncanton contracts for WH riith and Rexam Plastics.

One of the features of this negotiation was that they were willing to reach a settlement without having to take it to any outside bodies."

The deal also includes new arrangements for sick pay, bereavement leave and loss of HGY licence protection. It covers all 220 workers at the Bathgate site. McDonald adds that it will provide a target wage for other drivers on similar contracts: "We will be negotiating with Wincanton on their contract with Somerfield soon and although they like to keep things separate the supermarket area is a very fluid market and it will have a bearing on it."
