II Thieves are targeting vans in the Midlands by cutting fuel pipes to make them easy victims of crime, the police have warned. The thieves select the parked vehicles while drivers are making brief calls at firms.

They then follow them until the vehicles run out of fuel, wait for the driver to go for help and steal the goods inside. Thieves have used this scam to target at least six vehicles in recent weeks.

The latest incident involved a van parked outside Bookers cash-and-carry in Worcester. The driver left the store with more than .1.673 worth of cigarettes and beer and drove off before running out of petrol near Norman Close, Worcester. As he went for assistance thieves drew up in a maroon V-registered Estate car and broke into the vehicle to steal the load.
