Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Mazda Cars is launching a diesel version of its B2000 one-tonne pick-up. The new B2200 diesel model, which goes on sale on May 21, is powered by the same 2.2-litre indirect-injection engine fitted in the E2200 diesel panel van.

The four-cylinder 2,184cc overhead camshaft engine has a maximum output of 48kW (64hp) at 4,250rpm, and a peak torque of 139Nm(102 lbft) at 2,200rpm.

SEPARATE BODY Diesel B2200 pick-ups have a slightly higher gross weight of 2.47 tonnes, compared with the 2.39-tonne GVW B2000 petrol model, although its

payload remains the same 1,060kg with a 75kg driver on board.

Both the Mazda pick-ups have a five-speed gearbox with an 0.85:1 overdrive fifth gear. The B2200 has a higher 4.77:1 rear axle ratio compared with the petrol pick-up's 4.44 axle.

The 2.2-litre diesel's cast iron block has siamesed bores with no cooling passages between the cylinders for extra rigidity. No cylinder liners are used, allowing the block to be rebored to two oversizes.

The belt-driven overhead camshaft runs directly in the cylinder head without bearing shells, and valve adjustment can be carried out with it in place. The valve oil seals and springs on the 2.2-litre diesel can also be changed without having to lift the cylinder head.

Although Japanese Diesel Kiki fuel injection equipment is fitted to all Mazda diesels the company has an agreement with Bosch in Europe to supply exchange fuel pumps and service diesel injection equipment for Mazda dealers.

ONE-TONNE PAYLOAD

The diesel B2200 has the same separately-mounted 2,275mm long cargo body and cab shell as the B2000 as well as its front torsion bar/rear leaf-spring suspension set-up. Both versions have ventilated front disc brakes as standard.

Prices for the 2.2-litre diesel B2200 have yet to be an. nounced, although, according to Mazda Cars (UK), they will be "highly competitive". The 67kW(90hp) B2000 petrol version currently sells at 24,949 plus VAT. ['Mazda has started buildi a new research and develoi ment centre at Yokohama ii Japan which will be complet by October 1987.

Among the major areas fl study at the 37,000m2 centi will be vehicle electronics.

There will be special emphasis on sensor technolog3 the analysis of driver sensit ity and reactions to vehicle performance.

These will be incorporate into new vehicle control tec nology and safety, the deve opment of concept vehicles such as Mazda's four-wheel drive, all-wheel steering NE 03 model with turbochargee three-rotor Wankel engine, engine engineering, and the development of new vehicle designs.
