Ketton Portland Cement Company's deputy transport manager, Philip Prior, has been promoted to transport manager following the retirement of Jack Williams.

Mr G. B. Whitehead has been appointed Executive Chairman of Ferrymasters Ltd, the P&O European Transport Services company which provides international haulage services on UK-Western Europe and UK-Scandinavia routes. He will fulfil his new role concurrently with his position as Director International Services of P&O European Transport Services.

Formerly Joint Managing Director of Ferrymasters, Mr Whitehead assumed his Directorship of P&O European Transport Services in February 1979. He will retain responsibility for Containerlink Ltd., providing container services between the UK and Continental Europe, and for the marketing, personnel, property and insurance functions within P&O European Transport Services.

Cartransport, the Leamington-based car delivery specialists, have appointed a new Northern Regional Manager, Clive Garner.

He has spent over 20 years in the transport industry, having previously been with a transport distribution consultancy in Sandbach, Cheshire, prior to which he was with Air Products as terminal manager of their Carrington depot near Manchester. He will be basec at Cartransport's Hooton de pot near Ellesmere Port anc will have responsibility foi their depots in Bathgate Gateshead, Hartlepool Immingham, Wakefield anc Warrington.

Martin Lyon is the new trans port manager for Frigoscan dia's West of England depot He joined the company on l April. Prior to this appoint. ment Mr Lyon managed a private haulage company in Hampshire and also has experience of handling overland transportation to the Middle East.

A new service engineer has also been recruited for the south west region to handle Frigoscandia's growing list of service contracts. David Bradford-Jones, 38, comes to Frigoscandia having started his career in the Royal Navy as a marine services engineer. He has experience in a number of other cold storage companies and latterly was a partner in his own refrigeration engineering concern.

Obituary We record with regret the deaths of Stanley Hughes, aged 71, Ray Rodgers and John McGill aged 50. Bill Boden 60.

Stanley Hughes of Stanley Hughes (Holdings) Ltd was the founder, chairman and managing director of the company, and its subsidiaries, Lodge Garage, Gomersal, Cleckheaton, West Yorks.

Mr Rodgers was planning and operations manager of the National Bus Company's National Holidays, and John McGill had his own haulage business in St Helens.

Bill Boden died on April 27 after a brief illness.'

An engineer by training, he founded the Boden Trailer Company at Oldham, Lancashire. The Boden venture expanded rapidly through the next few years, leading to an agreed take-over by Crane Fruehauf in 1967. Bill Boden stayed on as Managing Director of Crane Fruehauf for a year, before relinquishing that position to concentrate on private business interests.
