THE latest addition to the Swedish Army's fleet is a six-wheeled crosscountry vehicle which has been christened the Ant Bear. Designed and built by Scariia-Vabis, Sodertalje, the new machine weighs 10 tons and is powered by an eight-cylindered 200 b.h.p. oil engine.
All three axles are driven and equipped with differential locks. A special cold-starting device incorporates a vaporized starting mixture which
is pumped into the engine. Easy start,jng is assured down to —30° C. Other features are hydraulic servo steering and a servo-operated clutch. Load capacity is 5 tons for crosscountry work and 8 tons on the road. The cab is equipped with an anti aircraft machine-gun. A 12-ton, gun can be towed over easy terrain, a 10ton unit on difficult going and some 20 tons on the road. Maximum speed on the road is about 45 m.p.h.
