Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ABERDEEN'S HAULIERS are bracing themselves for a substantial loss of work caused by the closure of one of the city's two remaining paper mills.

Last week it was announced that Davidson Mill, run by BPB (British Plaster Board), would shut in June, following a 90-day consultation process.

The main haulage and warehousing contract at the mill is held by Dyce-based ARR Craib, although it uses several local subcontractors.

Craib itself is not keen to comment on the consequences of the closure. Managing director Eddie Anderson says it is "very disappointing" but will not reveal how much of Craib's work depended on the contract with BPB. which was worth £18m when it was signed in 1999.

Robert Howie Jnr of haulier RA Howie, a subcontractor for Craib, says: "It's a disaster for the whole economy locally. It's really sad to see big names like this being forced to close."

Howie adds that although only about 5% of RA Howie's work comes from Davidson Mill, the mill's closure is likely to have a big knock-on effect on local hauliers.

The closure of Davidson Mill, which has been blamed on outdated equipment and the inability to compete with other European manufacturers, will leave 300 mill workers without jobs.
