• The United Road Transport Union plans to commission a report on drivers' pay, which it hopes will underpin wage negotiations from next year.
It has asked an outside consultant to identify a skills level for drivers and to give examples of other workers who should be included in the same category.
Once the report is completed, probably this summer, the union officials will be able to measure drivers' pay against that of workers with comparable skills.
