Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• LGV parts vendors should beware of a man using stolen Halifax Building Society cheques to acquire tipper transmission parts.

The man struck twice last week: Womborne, Staff-based Monkspath Transmission lost 41,400 and Radcliffe, Manchester dealer Eton Garage lost 040.

In both cases, a man telephoned the dealer to order

Leyland Constructor 555 differentials and later arranged to meet to pick them up on a motorway layby using a white Transit van. The man who met an employee of Eton Garage is described as white and in his late 50s to 60s, wearing overalls, and known as Alan.

The cheques were stolen from Halifax Building Society in May 1991 from the society's Driffield, Humberside agency. The cheque ranges are: 012669012672; 013504-013310; 013054013061 and 013063-013082 and are identified by "Branches

Suspense Account--093 Bridlington Manor Street".

The cheque number is given at the bottom left-hand corner of the cheque. The Halifax Building Society advises anyone with a suspicious cheque to contact their local branch to confirm whether it is valid.
