Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NEW range of :-.10-cwt. petrol-L-1 driven industrial trucks has recently been placed on the market by Messrs. E. C. Slingsby, of Kingsway, London, W.C.2, under the name of SlingsbyBrett. The machines are stoutly built on straightforward lines and the series comprises a low-loading-platform truck, a high-platform vehicle and an elevating model, all being three-wheelers.

In their essential details the three types are similar. At the front a rubber-tyred road wheel is mounted in a turntable which rotates in the fore part of the chassis frame. The 088 c.c. air

cooled flat-twin-cylindered engine is carried upon this turntable, and the drive is transmitted to the front wheel by means of chains.

The engine unit, and consequently the front wheel, can turn through an angle of 180 degrees, revolving on four phosphor-bronze pads, which are flexibly mounted on the turntable. Each pad embodies hardened-steel rollers which bear on the inside faces of the annular front portion of the main frame ; thus, the upward and downward load is transmitted from the chassis to the wheel frame.

The clutch is of the multiple-plate type and it is operated by means of a horizontal bar on the steering handle. When the machine is running the bar is maintained in an elevated position by the driver's hand. If for any reason the driver releases the clutch lever the magneto is short-circuited and the truck comes to rest.

A conveniently placed pedal operates contracting-band brakes on the rear wheels, whilst a lever applies a brake on the front wheel. At the rear laminated springs are used, front-wheel 'suspension being effected by coil springs.

The elevating model embodies a platform which may be lifted by hydraulic power to a height of 161 ins.
