Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE UK ROAD haulage industry cannot continue to pay duty at the level of 57p/litre and survive!

If there is a concession in ELJ directive 2003/96/ EC: to allow member states to have different rates of duty for non-commercial (as opposed to commercial) vehicles, why are we not standing at the head of the queue at No.10, bowl in hand. insisting: "Please Sir. can I have some more?“ In 2008, independent UK hauliers, under the banner of TransAction 2007. presented to 10 Downing Street a petition along with added information substantiating a claim for reducing fuel duty rates for the whole industry.

Had the group known of this EU Directive prior to the London demonstrations. my colleagues and I feel the protests would have been supported by many more.

It would appear that there is, and has been, for several years the ability to allow UK operators a reduction in fuel duty.

Transport operators must insist that their association leaders go to the government and ask for what we are entitled to, so that their business can survive.
