falsifying his tachograph record
A DRIVER WHO failed to insert a tachograph chart at the beginning of his journey has had his HGV licence suspended for 28 days.
Peter Wildman of Camwood, Bamber Bridge, appeared before North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell after being convicted of falsifying a tachograph record. She reminded him she could suspend his licence for falsification for two years. A traffic examiner said that the odometer reading showed 671km when the distance trace showed 643. Wildman had admitted leaving the Penwortham depot ofJEATaylor without a chart in the tachograph
and inserting one when he reached the motorway.
Wildman said he was getting stressed out and did what he knew other drivers had done in the past. He did not put a chart in the tachograph until he reached the motorway. He knew it was stupid and did it only the once.
The TC reminded the inquiry that all duty time should be recorded, following a recent decision in a case that had been heard by the European Court. This included instances where drivers were not driving HGVs but other vehicles, such as company cars or vans.
