Vi Watkinson met William Hague in Skipton High Street in April and challenged him about VED and diesel prices.

From there we held a protest meeting in a very unusual place. We had the shadow minister for transport B Jenkins, D Currie MP, the RHA, the NFU, the FTA and the York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce behind bars in the main cattle ring at Skipton Auction Mart, where approximately 300 people gathered from far and wide to voice their anger. It was then decided to organise a nationwide petition which has gone from strength to strength with the backing of the RHA and approximately 4,000 signatures to date. Petition books are with hauliers all around the country. To get your petition book and help the cause please contact: Vi Watkinson, 26 Dales Avenue, Embsay, Skipton, North Yorkshire BD23 6PE, phone/fax: 01756 799874.

It is intended to present these to Mr Blair at 10 Downing Street, London. We need everyone's help. Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Watkinson for further information. I am also urging all the splinter groups in the country, whatever their size, to contact me immediately. We must be united in this cause. V Watkinson,

Skipton, North Yorkshire.
