Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

APart VIII of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1971 contains the regulations which govern the requirements for side marker lights on vehicles.

Under Regulations 40 and 41, a vehicle or combination of vehicles, one of which is drawing another and which exceeds 18 metres (6 Oft) in length, must display one lamp on each side not more than nine metres (30ft) from the foremost part of the vehicle and one lamp on each side not more than three metres (1 Oft) from the rearmost part of the vehicle.

Further lamps must be displayed to ensure that the distance between side marker lamps does not exceed three metres .

Regulation 43 exempts from these requirements a combination of vehicles if it has broken down and single vehicles carrying a long or wide load.as laid down in Regulation 35 of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1973.

Regulations 43 and 44 deal with a combination of vehicles when this does not exceed 18 metres but is over 12 metres (40ft) when a supported load is carried, but excluding articulated vehicles.

In this case, one lamp must be carried on each side not forward of and not more than 1,515mm (5ft) from the rear of the vehicles and another not forward of and not more than 1,515mm to the rear of the centre point of the overall length of the load,
