Walter R. Alexander, deputy chairman, Transport Holding Company. has been appointed managing director of Tayforth Ltd. and Stewart M. Duff, deputy managing director. Mr. Alexander, who is 35, has been engaged in road haulage since entering business in 1955. He was responsible for Tayforth's two largest subsidiaries, Road Services (Caledonian) Ltd. and Road Services (Forth) Ltd. during the period when these two companies were privately owned, and also since they were acquired by Tayforth. Wilfrid Andrews has been re-elected chairman of the Royal Automobile Club for the 22nd time since 1945. Aged 74, Mr. Andrews is still a keen motorist. A. H. Mathias, A. B. Bourne and A. G. Poison were re-elected vice chairmen.

Michael Grant has been appointed service and parts manager of Guy Motors Ltd. He was previously with the London based central division of Cummins Engines Co. Ltd. as regional representative for the UK and northern Europe. Alan Davies has been appointed technical service manager of Guy.

At the a.g.m. of the Scottish Section of The Institute of Transport last week, H. M. Dick (Scottish Co-op Wholesale Socy.) was elected chairman. C. M. Anderson (Pitt and Scott Ltd.) immediate past-chairman and R. McKean (BEA), P. Chalmers Somerville (Leith Dock Commission) and T. Atkin (Tayforth Ltd.) vice-chairmen. Roy F. Derviller has been appointed sales manager of Chassis Developments Ltd.. of Luton. He joined the company from Vauxhall Motors Ltd., where he had been engaged in export sales of Bedford commercial vehicles.

B. R. Gray, branch manager, BRS Parcels Ltd. at Hull,is the new chairman of the Humberside section of the Institute of Transport.

J. D. Doyle has been appointed branch manager of the new BRS Parcels Ltd. depot at Bridgwater, which will be opened later this summer. Mr. Doyle was previously the commercial representative for the South-western area and has been with BRS for 17 years.

Three members of the BRS Parcels Ltd. staff who between them total more than 100 years' service, were recently presented with longservice awards. The recipients were A. E. Keit branch manager, Leeds (42 years). W. R. J. Sanderson, area accountant (37 years), and J. B. Mackay, acting branch manager, Halifax (36 years).

W. H. Jelpke has been appointed traffic manager of East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd.. in succession to K. Holmes, who has been appointed traffic manager of Northern General Transport Co. Ltd. Mr. Jelpke had been traffic manager of Hebble Motor Services Ltd. since March, 1963.

L. C. Blackwell has been appointed transport and service director. Robinson Rentals Ltd.

L. F. Marlyn has joined the board of Simms Group Research and Development Ltd. Mr. Martyn joined Simms Motor Units Ltd. in 1954 as a research engineer on fuel-injection development and became research manager with Simms Research when the company was formed in July, 1964.

Whitaker has resigned his seat on the Todmorden Town Council after 46 years' service. For more than 35 years Aid. Whitaker was chairman of the Todmorden Joint Omnibus Committee and is a former president of the Municipal Transport Association, Jack Bruce Wood has been appointed to serve for a three year term on the Transport Tribunal, and he attended his first hearing on Tuesday. Mr. Wood was for 33 years with I.C.I. Ltd.. ending his career with the company as chairman of I.0 .1. (Malaya) Ltd. in 1961. He then assumed the managing directorship of Goodlass Wall Ltd. on a temporary basis, leaving that company in 1965. He is 57, and is greatly looking forward to his service on the Tribunal.

Malcolm S. Richardson has been appointed to the board of Cturunins Diesel Sales and Service Ltd. Mr. Richardson joined the company in 1962 as sales manager and later was appointed general sales manager.

Michael Royle has been appointed area sales representative of Taskcrs of Andover (1932) Ltd. for North-west England and North Wales. Mr. Royle joined the company two years ago and has been employed in the home sales department.

F. W. Roberts has been appointed a director of Crompton Parkinson (Batteries) Ltd., Newport, Mon. Mr. Roberts joined the company in 1933.

Bert Matthews has been appointed managing director of Quinton Hazell (Silencers) Ltd.

OBITUARY.

WE regret to record the deaths of Mr. L. Clay, T Mr. J. Harris, Mr. H. A. Palmer and Mr. E. Shaw.

Mr. Clay, 70, was for 42 years transport manager of the fruit firm of Sir Ernest Shentall Ltd„ of Saltergate, Chesterfield.

Mr. Harris, 82, was in business as a haulage .contractor in Grantham. Lincs, for many years. His father was the founder of the business, starting with a horse and cart.

Mr. Palmer had been a member of the executive committee of the National Association of Warehouse Keepers for 22 years and was chairman from 1949 to 1950. He was 64.

Mr. Shaw was founder in 1922 of a bus service at Maxey, connecting that village and others in the area with Peterborough. He was 80 at the time of his death and was still driving buses at 70.
