THE Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of War Transport was asked in the House, last week, whether, in 'ogler to save petrol and rubber, he would instruct Regtonal Transport Commissioners to revise public-servicevehicle operating schedules so as to permit longer times and lower speeds for journeys.
Capt. McEwen replied that buses and coaches were already subject to a general maximum speed of 30 m.p.h., or 20 m.p.h. in built-up area% during black-out hours. The time schedules of services were carefully regulated by the Regional Transport Commissioners from the point of view of speed in relation to conditions on the route. For these reasons it was not considered that a general review, as suggested, was necessary. .
