The British Company will Stage a Range of Models of from 5-ton to 10-cwt.

Capacity.

We were recently informed by the British N.A.G. Co., Ltd., 4, Great Marlborough Street, W., which undertaking, our readers are aware, markets in this country the many productions of that well-known German factory, the Neue Automobil Gesellschaft, that sour distinct types of N.A.G. will be on view at the forthcoming Olympia. After calling at the company's fine suite of showrooms and offices at Great Marlborough Street, for the purpose of viewing there the smaller models, which range from an express light delivery van up to a 30-cwt. model, we subsequently paid a visit to the garage situated near Lancaster Gate, and were immediately interested in a well-built machine, also to be exhibited, which is designed to carry a normal load of five tons; if provided with a trailer, the complete equipment is capable of dealing with the very useful load of 11 tons.

The 45 h.p. Five-tonner.

We are now in a position to give to our readers a short description of this model as being a typical example of the company's productions, which have commanded so much success on the Continent for general goods transport. A large number of N.A.G. lorries is in constant use by the German War Office. In addition, we append a specification of the company's complete range of Olympia xhibits.

The machine under our present notice bears the works deeignation—P8 type. The power unit consists of a four-cylin• der vertical engine capable of developing 45 b.h.p., the respective bore and stroke being 130 mm. by 160 mm. The cylinders are cast in pairs, and the valve pockets are disposed on both sides of the engine. The valves themselves are provided with adjustable tappets. A half-compression device, readily manipulated from the front of the machine, aesistn easy starting up. The engine

cooling water is circulated by means of a centrifugal pump, and in addition a belt-driven suction fan of large diameter is fitted behind the radiator. Engine

lubrication is effected by means of a pressure pump driven off the camshaft, an oil tell-tale being fitted to the dashboard.

For Benzole or Alcohol.

It is interesting to note that the carburetter, of the company's own design, is capable, on adjustment, of readily carburetting either benzoic or alcohol in addition to ordinary petrol if desired. The fuel is pressure fed ; a substantially built-up tank is euspended.at the pear of

the machine and has a capacity of about 40 gallons. For initial air pressure in the tank a small hand pump is fitted On the dashboard.

Bosch high-tension system of ignition is fitted as standard. Its good points call for no mention.

The system of transmitting power to the differential shafts conforms to the usual practice and calls for no comment except that all parts subjected to stress appear to be well designed up to duty. The gearbox is provided with four speeds and reverse, which are operated by gate chatge. The final drive is by means of two roller chains driven off side sprockets fitted to the outer ends of the enclosed differential shafts, the hind dead axle is of a very substantial section, and we noticed that ample ground clearance is effected. The rolled-steel frame of channel section also impressed us as being well built, it is stayed and gus seted where necessary. No cub-frame is provided, the engine and gearbox being suspended by means of good stout mild. steel brackets fitted to the main frame. The road wheels are of cant teel„ and are shod with rubber tires-830 mm. on the front and 1030 mm. on the back.

The platform area available is 13 ft. by 6 ft. 6 ins. The driver is well protected by means of a suitable form of eab front ; a canopy and spring seat. are also provided for the trailer attendant. The trailer, which has been brought to this country, is fitted with steel, tired wheels. The weight of the machine itself is 3gtons, and that of the trailer LI tons.

The Similar Three-ton Chassis.

We understand that, except for en gine power, the constructional features of the 3-tonner are practically identical with its larger prototype, the smaller model having a 30-32 h.p. engine fitted. This latter type of machi:te, we are informed, is ecnstrueted to the requirements of the German War Office, and it is capable of dealing with loads op to five tons.

In addition to exhibiting the three. ton and five-ton models, the company will stage two machines each carrying delivery van body. One of the vehicles, of what is known as the K.L. 4 type, is fitted with a four-cylinder engine of 26 blip.; the body can accommodate loads up to 30 cwt. The remaining exhibit is to be a handsome express delivery van, termed the K2 type. A four-cylinder icrigine, cast en-bloc in this case, is fitted, the horse-power rating being 10-14. The body.. of new design to this country, is

built on torpedo lin es; and i a finished in natural wood highly polished. The loadcarrying capacity is 10 cwt. ; the body is accommodated with removable shelves.

The N.A.G. exhibit, it would appear, is likely worthily tu tiemonstrate the high esteem in which this particular make of German-built lorry is held on the Continent ; its approved use as a Government subsidy model at the present time is particularly of interest.

N.A.G. Machines in Public Szrvice.

Further evidence of the sound constructional features which are embodied iiiN.A.G. machines is offered by the ex eeptional amount of favour with which they have been received in Berlin and other German cities as public service vehicles, both double and single-deckers being employed, the latest models, we understand, being of the live-axle type. The British N.A.G. Co., we are further informed, has at its disposal a range of vehicles of high medium and light load capacity, and is prepared to demonstrate the capabilities of any of the vehicles under full working conditions. The body-work for the vehicles also calls for mention as receiving every attention during construction at the company's own works, only the best quality material being employed.
