ANEW mobile radio transmitter/receiver has been put into production by Rank-Bush Murphy Electronics .Ltd. Called the Murphy Rover Type MR 960, the new model is designed for use on vehicles and in its development has been subjected to numerous severe tests to ensure reliability under extreme conditions.

The space taken up by the Rover in a vehicle will be fairly small. The transmitter/receiver unit measures 12-25 in. by 10-2 in. by Sin, and is designed for remote mounting, whilst the control unit, designed for dash mounting, measures only 7 in. by 4-3 in. by 3-5 in. An alternative control unit is available, this measures 4-68 in. by 2 in. by 3.06 in. Both local and fringe' area requirements are covered and it is said that the Rover has achieved ranges of 80 miles. Under normal conditions over reasonably flat country and using a well-sited base station, a range of about 30 miles can be expected.

Makers: Rank-Bush Murphy Ltd., Welwyn Garden City. Herts.

Price: About £130, possibly less when the new model is in full production.

Hydraulic Motor THE Stalla Mark 7 hydraulic motor now in production with Chamberlain Industries Ltd.. is the development of a lowspeed high-torque unit with modifications which give it an improved starting torque. It is a five-cylinder motor with a speed range of from 0 to 300.r.p.m. in either direction and gives a power output at maximum speed of 130 b.h.p. when operating at a normal working pressure of 2,500 p.s.i. and 166 b.h.p. at a peak pressure of 3,200 p.s.i.

Overall length of the motor is 21:5 in., overall diameter (it is a rotary unit) is 18.75 in and dry weight is 310 lb.

Makers: Chamberlain Industries Ltd., Staffa Works, Argall Avenue, Leyton, London, E.10.

Churchill Track Gauge THE Churchill 96 track gauge featured on page 35 of the December 13 issue of The Commercial Motor can be used by fitting the probes between the front inside faces of the tyres and then rolling the vehicle.. forwards until the tool is positioned at the rear. Where there is not the space to do this the gauge will have to be moved from front to rear but the advantage of leaving the probes in the original position is that wheel or tyre distortion do not result in false readings. Lapping Compound DISMANTLING of Parts lapped using Timesaver compounds which have been introduced from the U.S.A. by Universal Marketing and Sales Ltd., is not necessary., This is because the compounds will not be bedded into the metal and they will not continue cutting after the lapping operation is finished because they do not contain charging abrasives.

The compounds are soldin powder form for Mixing with oil of a suitable viscosity for the particular application. When the lapping operation is completed the abrasive .breaks down first of all into a polish and then into a harmless material.
