Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN application by British Road Services to add 40 vehicles of 195 tons on A licence, in place of contract licence, to carry cased ears, car bodies, cabs, vans, components and materials for the car industry, mainly to the Midlands and South Wales, was granted at Bristol on Monday.

B.R.S. were the major contractors for the Pressed Steel Co. Ltd., and car production had increased to such an extent that they had suffered considerable difficulty in coping with the extra work. Mr. W. Scott, district manager for B.R.S. at Oxford, told Mr. S. W. Nelson, the Western Licensing Authority, that new business from January, 1959, to June, 1963, had amounted to .£55,000 and in the next year it was likely to reach about £700,000.

Mr. Scott said B.R.S. had purchased a site of 16 acres at Swindon, and had erected a warehouse of 84,000 sq. ft.

The large increase in work for firms generally connected with the car business, had resulted in serious operational problems. The A licences were necessary to

give flexibility. 4

The application was unopposed and Mr. Nelson said: "The step the applicants are taking is obviously a very sensible one, They wish to create greater efficiency and eliminate empty journeys."
