AN announcement has been made by the Road Haulage Central Waves Board that it has decided to give notice of its intention to submit to the Minister of Labour proposals for the amendment of the existing Road Haulage Wages Orders governing the statutory remuneration of workers falling within the scope of the Board.

Amendments proposed include nine days' annual holiday with pay in lieu of • the existing six days, special rates for workers employed on the carriage of abnormal indivisible loads, and amendments of existing provisions relating to the computation of the hours of work of regular employees, and to the payments to be made to those who telephone for instructions while off duty.

Notices containing the full proposals have been transmitted to the Area Wages Board for report, and to all employers in the industry. Any objection to the proposals must be lodged by January 21. The reports of the Area Boards and any objections will be considered by the Central Board when the question of submitting proposals to the Minister for confirmation will be decided.
