Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FROM correspondence received since the appearance in our issue dated December 20 of the article "Did S.T.R. Do Wrong?" it appears that no error occurred. Indeed, an emphatic, if not regretful, denial has been received from the inquirer, whose request was the basis of the article, that there was any prospect of his receiving 10s. per hour for a 24-hour day.

The following is a schedule of rates which are actually being offered by the Army authorities in Southern England: day of 24 hours, the following maximum 24-hour daily rates apply, and where the total figure payable on any one day exceeds the maximum 24-hour daily rate, the matter must be used:
