SECRETS of the oil search in Scotland are to be revealed, at Glasgow, by Mr. A. R. Leper, of the Mines Department -when he lectures, on February 16, on the boring operations conducted by the Anglo-Iranian and the 'Anglo-American oil companies in the Lothians. The companies have already spent more than £500,000 in the operations, but officials have refused to give any information until the tests are completed.

Blame for Northern Ireland Road Accidents.

• A LTHOUGH the number of road IA accidents in Northern Ireland in 1938 shows an increase over the total for "1937, the figures respectively being

• 1,945 and 1,793, the number of persons killed fell from 131 to 117, and -the number of injured dropped from 2,387 to 2,129.

The Ministry of Home Affairs report for 1938 states that of the total accidents, 739 were caused by pedestrians .353 by cyclists,. 519 by negligent driving, and 99 by skidding of vehicles. Only two were caused by faulty steering and nine by faulty brakes, whilst burst tyres were 'responsible for 84. Dazzling light's were blamed for eight accidents. Eire Tractor Imports Down.

shows that 339 tractors, valued at £41,433, were imported into Eire (Irish Free State), during last year, as contrasted with 421 machines and £51,006 respectively in 1937.
