Several Original Features Affording Practical Advantages, Incorporated in Latest Rawlings Design

ANEW half-drop window, which possesses certain novel features, and represents a distinct advance in an respects, has y r

m just been introduced the by Rawlings Manufacturing Co., Ltd. 1-11, Larch Road, London, The accompanying drawing reveals the fact that the moving light is supported by locking levers mounted on the guard rail at the top of the fixed light. This arrangement eliminates the possibility of the top channel of the moving panel being strained away from the glass, as may happen, if the window be handled roughly, when the locking device is incorporated in the top channel.

In the new design, the slight shock caused by the locking lever suddenly arresting the motion of the falling pane is taken by the side channels. The concern claims that this is a new feature and has applied for patents to cover it. These locking levers, which are fixed to the ends of a rod running for the full C64

length of the guard rail, are normally pressed by springs against the side channels, in which notches are provided to receive them. Thus any tendency for the pane to rattle is checked, and the greater the downward pressure the more securely the glass is held. The operating catch or catches which release the levers may be either at the centre or at the ends of the guard rail, according to the disposition of the seats in the vehicle. Should one of the locking-lever springs require renewal, it can be removed and replaced without disturbing

the glazing, simply by detaching the wood retaining pieces at the sides of the fixed light, leaning the latter inwards, and removing the detachable end pieces from the guard rail, as shown in the detail sketch above. Other features are that the window may be closed but not opened from the outside, that the moving light can be supplied without top and/or bottom channels if preferred, and that the guard-rail rubber is always in contact with the moving pane, thus preserving a draughtproof and watertight joint whether the window be open er shut.
