Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• "Nothing's impossible ..." runs the opening line of the old song about picking yourself up, dusting yourself down and starting all over again. Of course that kind of optimism comes easy to songwriters.

For the drivers who had their licences revoked because of historic medical problems it's been o long hard slog with little enough encouragement. But at last they look like getting some justice. According to the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority the law which allowed drivers who suffered an epileptic attack many years ago to be barred from holding a licence is to be changed from next January.

Readers will remember that back in the spring Commercial Motor campaigned on behalf of many drivers who were affected by the tightening of the law after the DVLA took over the responsibility for issuing licences from the Traffic Commissioners last year. It's satisfying to see that campaign bearing fruit. While we wouldn't claim a total victory, at least we've won the first round.

Each case will still be judged on its merits, which is only right. And good riddance to the insensitive blanket rule which consigned experienced drivers to the scrapheap. Good news is hard to find these days. But if you're prepared to keep pushing, sooner or later the door will open.

0 Like the rest of you, we look forward to our Xmas break. So next week CM will be a double issue, with a bumper package of goodies, to last through your Yuletide festivities (see right). Double your fun, but not double the price: your double

issue will only cost 22. Our 31 December "hangover" issue will be back down to 21.10.
