airground Attraction's song with its chorus • of "It's got to be perfect", would have been sadly inappropriate at this auction of fairground vehicles held recently in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, where family firm T Smith sold up after a lifetime in showbusiness.
The Fodens, AECs, Scarnmells and Albions dated from the 50s and 60s — many had stood idle on the firm's site for years, allowing nature to take over with bushes and brambles growing through the chassis. The auction raised about £12,000 from 20 lots — top price of £2,800 was paid for a 1958 AEC Matador 4x4 lorry.
