Ford jobs • Ford admits there will be further redundancies at its manufacturing sites at Southampton, Halewood and Dagenham next year: "Since 1980 Ford has reduced its UK workforce by around 3,000 a year and will be under pressure to reduce costs until the recovery, which is not expected until 1994," it says.
Food boxes • BOC is now offering Freshtainer containers for controlled atmosphere storage for hire at its depots at Enfield and Spalding. They can be hired as complete units or on a pallet useages basis. The depots offer daily deliveries into all retail regional distribution centres, wholesalers and produce and horticultural markets.
Top driver • Brian Mtdlholland has become BOC Distribution Services' first Lorry Driver of the Year, Mullholland is based at the BOC Storeshield depot at Westfield, Scotland. Together with 14 other finalists, he sat a written test on road safety and legal requirements with a practical on driving skills and accuracy.
M&S deal • Transcontinental Rosslare has won its first direct contract with Marks & Spencer with a two-year deal to deliver the retailer's fresh, frozen and chilled products to its stores in the Republic of Ireland. TR and sister company Pandoro will carry a dozen consignments a week, involving four round trips from Crewe. Five new 12.2m dual-compartment refrigerated trailers have been bought.
