THE TRADITIONAL nursery song has been amended by progressive mothers who now sing to their infants: "Severn Bridge is falling down, my fair lady." This is a reference to Lynda Chalker, Minister for Transport, who is indeed fair but has been accused of failing to be frank and of suppressing a report on the condition of the structure.
She says the bridge is perfectly safe to use when it is not dangerous. This should reassure everyone.
