Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

EAD with interest J. A. tcher's letter in your ivember 19 issue regarding Certificate of Professional mpetence.

Nhile fully agreeing with his sire to see managers in both haulage and bus industries lieve higher qualifications in the very basic CPC and reeing that this statutory luirement should be used as a ringboard to these aims, I do t see the need to set up luntary higher levels in ',junction with officialdom. several paths already exist it can be followed by those io wish to develop )9 ressive careers in our lustry. The professional titutes, CIT. IOTA and Mr. tcher's own IRTE all have 3minations leading to their ious grades of membership. e Royal Society of Arts has lg established and recently dated Certificates in both road ssenger and road freight. hridge Management College ers a wide variety of transport inagement courses, from the e week RHA Senior Transport inagers Course to the nine weeks Transport Management Programme which leads to CIT membership.

What is needed, in my opinion, is encouragement from employers for their staff to take advantage of these opportunities to gain higher qualifications, and to require applicants for appointments to hold relevant professional memberships.
