A LONDON owner-driver has been disqualified from driving for 12 months for 0-licensing offences, including displaying a disc that was there when he bought the truck.
Robert Johnson pleaded guilty to using a vehicle without an 0-licence, using an 0-licence disc with intent to deceive and driving a vehicle on a road otherwise than in accordance with a licence when he appeared before the Harlow magistrates. Anthony Ostrin, prosecuting for Vosa, said a 38-tonne articulated outfit driven by Johnson was stopped in a roadside check. The vehicle was displaying an 0-licence identity disc in the name of John McHale and was for a totally different vehicle. The vehicle being checked was carrying a consignment of wines.
Johnson told the court he had been driving vehicles all his life, but did not have an LG V driving licence. He did not put the 0-licence disc in the windscreen but knew it was there, having bought the vehicle from a dealer with it in the windscreen.
The magistrates said they took a very serious view of the fraudulent use of an 0-licence disc and considered it most serious that Johnson should he driving a 38-tonne vehicle without a proper driving licence.
On each of the three offences the magistrates disqualified Johnson from driving for a period of 12 months, all to run concurrently, and fined him £150 for using an 0-licence disc with intent to deceive. He was ordered to pay £150 costs.
