THE DRIVERS who transport McLaren's Formula I racing cars around Europe are being trained to boost their safety and efficiency.

The transport team, which runs 28 Mercedes-Benz Actroses, haul the cars for racing and testing.

The training is being handled by Charterway, the contract hire arm of DaimlerChrysler. Ian Barnard,McLaren transport manager, says: "Training practices are ongoing, so the drivers have a passport type of document which logs their achievements" A year after the initial course, the drivers will go through refreshers to see if they are maintaining their enhanced levels of economy and safety.
