An open letter to Mr Gayssot, the new president of the European Union Council of Transportation Ministers: Everywhere in the European Union, road carriers suffer from the incredible hike in the price of fuel—a raw material which is subject to extremely heavy taxes without any possibility of substitution. These erratic price evolutions are devoid of any logic of repercussion.

Certain transportation professionals have already taken action; others are prepared to do so.

We would not like to see the despair of certain professionals transform itself into a general movement of discontent which we cannot hold in check. This explains why we earnestly request that you register the fuel file on the priority agenda of your presidency as soon as possible.

We would like you to be our spokesman in this respect to the president of the European Finance Ministers Council to obtain a specific fiscal measure on the European level which guarantees road carriers the conditions of balanced competition on a long-term basis.
