From Our Political Correspondent

A FEW provisions of the Transport

Act, which received Royal Assent last week, came into force automatically. They deal with the temporary suspension of liability to maintain inland waterways, the power to make grants (to the B.T.C.) and the power to develop land.

The other main provisions will be brought into force by Order of the Minister of Transport, and the present intention is that the main part of the Act should come into force on or about September 1 next.

The next formal stage will be Vesting Day—when the new Boards and the Holding Company will take over the assets, rights and liabilities of the B.T.C. The hope for Vesting Day remains unchanged at January 1, 1963.
