AMERICAN aluminium producers, at one time hoping to gain a large market for use of the metal in engine cylinder blocks, have received a setback as many motor manufacturers are switching to thin-wall iron cylinder blocks.
The higher cost of aluminium as compared with the new thin-wall iron block is the basic reason for the change.
