Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Dutch haulier Edcrest has had two UK Operator's Licences revoked from the end of May, when the company will close down in this country.

North Western Deputy Commissioner Mark Iiinchliffe revoked the Edcrest UK operation is to close. company's licence from

31 May, following a similar decision last week on the cornrn pany's licence in the South-East. The company says that because of the loss of major contracts it had already planned to close at the end of May.

DOT vehicle examiner Anthony Hicks told Hinchliffe that he did not believe Edcrest's vehicles were being maintained to the required standard. In a maintenance investigation in February last year he imposed one immediate and two delayed prohibitions. He pointed out that tachograph records for many of the firm's vehicles were not available after March 1995.

Hinchliffe called for inquiries to be made into the solicitors formerly representing Edcrest.

He wants to know why the solicitor asked for a previous public inquiry to be adjourned in March when the Edcrest transport manager, Graad DeRooy, said the solicitor was told in January it was not required to represent the company.
