Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Miles Brignall • Scottish haulier Ecosse European Shipping is to have its bank account frozen by a subcontractor owed £20,000, just days after it was called to a public inquiry to answer allegations concerning tachograph irregularities.

Earlier this week debt recovery agents placed an arrestment order on Ecosse's account in a bid to recover the money owed to Aberdeen-based DL McMillan International. Several other hauliers have reported difficulty in getting money owed by Ecosse.

Last week Alloa-based Ecosse and four of its drivers were called to an Edinburgh public inquiry to face allega

tions over the use of tachographs. After hearing evidence in private from three of the firm's former drivers, and one still employed by the company. deputy Scottish Traffic Commissioner Richard McFarlane adjourned the hearing.

He told the firm's representative David Henderson that the three former drivers had made serious allegations against the firm—and that they were prepared to repeat those allegations at a further inquiry.

McFarlane said it was only fair that the company should be made aware of the allegations to allow it to answer them at a new public inquiry.

No decision was taken on the future of the drivers.
