by Bryan Jarvis • Lincoln-based Transdek's latest innovation, the MaxiDek, combines a lifting roof and second deck to offer greater transport efficiencies. The design, which was first seen at the recent CV and Bodywork Show at the NEC, allows normal through loading from the rear on to the lowered second deck.

Once laden with 26 pallets, the 10-tonne rated floor and the roof can be raised electrohydraulically, leaving 2.2m of headroom beneath it. This increases roll-cage capacity from 48 to more than 100.

With a further 26 pallets on the main deck, the upper floor and roof section can be lowered again to the centre position. All available space and maximum capacity can be used, even at continental heights.

The lifting posts are slim enough to leave a 2.44m interior width. Extra flexibility is offered by the split upper deck, which is built in three sections.

Other features include traffic lights that signal when the deck is parked on any of the eight air-operated locks; load sensing to ensure the platform is not overloaded; and additional sensors to prevent protruding objects being crushed.

In the event of a power failure, the platform can be moved manually.

Transdek says the design is attracting interest from users of car transporters and parts supply trailers—managing director Mark Adams believes the MaxiDek could combine the two functions at reduced cost.
