A 1969 FORD D-Series refuse collector from Southend, where private enterprise has taken over public cleansing, is now a family holiday home. Undeterred by the smell, Jim Vogt, a lorry driver who was born in a fairground caravan, paid £250 for it at auction.
He built a new body and he and his family of four are planning to take "Chez Pool" to the south of France in the summer.
