Ministry of Transport examiners have :en instructed to give special attention to e condition of buses attached to the artlepool (Durham) depot of United utomobile Services Ltd.
Recently 260 drivers and conductors at
e depot held a 24-hours token strike to .aw attention to alleged inadequate aintenance on the depot's 68 buses. The aployees stated that some buses were not to be on the road and they attributed the isition, not to bad maintenance, but to
delay in getting parts.
The matter was referred to the Minister of Transport who in a letter to Mr E. Leadbitter, MP for Hartlepool, said that examinations had revealed a number of defects which ought normally to have been detected by the company. The defects had been remedied, but Ministry examiners had been told to give the depot further special attention. The letter added that, as a whole, the maintenance of United buses was considered to be above average.
