• Although Mr. D. I. R. Muir, the Metropolitan LA and his deputy, Mr W. M. Levitt, presided together at a public inquiry on Tuesday, Mr Muir explained it was not a joint sitting. Mr Levitt was there to observe the proceedings, he said, so that a common approach to operators' licensing could be gained. "I will make the decisions," said Mr Muir.
W. C. Wootten and Son (Poplar) Ltd, was granted a transitional operator's licence for 35 vehicles and 38 trailers, together with a margin of six trailers and six vehicles. Mr Muir said the company had been called to public inquiry because of a number of overloading offences, although after hearing the evidence of Mr W. C. Wootten, company secretary and director he said he was satisfied with the measures introduced to prevent it.
E. J. Irwin was granted a new 0 licence under Section 64 (1) of the 1968 Transport. Act for one vehicle for one year. Mr Muir said he would get an MoT vehicle examiner to advise Mr Irwin on a suitable type of maintenance contract with the local repair garage.
Aftercrete Constructional Engineering Co Ltd, of Luton, was granted a transitional licence for five vehicles in possession.
• An application by Mermaid Travel Ltd, of London SW!?, to operate three-day tours to Paris and Amsterdam and five-day tours to Paris, was adjourned "until a date to be fixed" by Mr W. M. Levitt, deputy Chairmai of the Metropolitan Traffic Commissioners, last week.
